About the Name
Qız Qalası, or "Maiden Tower," is a majestic 12th-century monument located in the Old City of Baku. Together with the 15th-century Palace of the Shirvanshahs, Maiden Tower is part of Azerbaijan's cultural heritage and was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2001. This symbol of national pride is also depicted on Azerbaijani banknotes and official documents.
